RYA Multihull Levels 1 & 2
This course is aimed at students with some experience sailing monohulls who now fancy trying something different and want to learn to sail a multihull. The course will cover as much as possible from the RYA Multihull Level 1 - Start Sailing and RYA Multihull Level 2 - Basic Skills.
The Level 1 - Start Sailing course (details here on the RYA website) is a course for complete beginners specific to sailing a multihull, teaching students how to safely launch and recovery, sail in all directions, tack and gybe.
The Level 2 - Basic Skills course (details here on the RYA website) teaches students to fine tune the basics, learn more about rigging, launching, capsize recovery and essential safety knowledge. It aims to build students' confidence and gain the skills needed to sail and make decisions in good conditions.
The Level 2 course covers:
- Rigging
- Launching
- Building confidence
- Improved sailing in all directions
- Capsize recovery
- Essential safety knowledge
The expectation is that students will draw on their existing sailing skills so grasp the Level 1 content in no time so will be able to quickly progress to the Level 2 syllabus. Pace of progression will depend on the students and the weather. If students only manage to cover (and demonstrate the skills of) half the course then those sections of the logbook will be signed off. If the weather is perfect and students are quick learners then there's no reason why the whole of Level 2 couldn't be achieved.
The instructor for this course is James Whishaw. The course will be taught using the AISTC Dart 16.
