Talk Night with Ellie Driver Sailor of the Year 2022 British Yacht Awards

The Challenges of Competing in the Rolex Fastnet Race 2023 and the Lessons Learnt

Ellie Driver is 21 years of age and currently finishing her Masters Degree in Maritime Engineering at the University of Southampton.

Ellie was part of the RYA Youth Pathway initially sailing Oppies before transitioning into 420s. She represented GBR in numerous events in Europe, the United States and Australia before the big jump into offshore racing. She has now completed 2 Rolex Fastnets, 3 RORC Seasons and the Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland Race in 2022, where she became the youngest skipper to have completed the race.

Ellie raced the 2023 Rolex Fastnet Race double handed with her Dad, Jim. They were the 10th Double Handed Boat, Ellie was also the 2nd Female Skipper and the 2nd Youth Skipper overall. The race was particularly challenging, with 40 knots at the start and two further storms of 30 knots during the 5 days. Come and hear how they overcome the various challenges they experienced during the race and the lessons they learnt for the future.

This talk should be ideal for members of all ages and particularly inspiring for families with teenage sailors.

The bar opens at 18:00 with the talk commencing at 19:00. There will be an American Supper after the talk and those people with surnames beginning with A-K are invited to bring a savoury and the rest a dessert.

Please book through the website.
