Safety Boat Operator Course (5th & 6th July) Provisional
The RYA Safety Boat Operator course is a two day course which provides the skills required when acting as a safety boat for a fleet of dinghies, or for racing or training activities. It includes rescue techniques and elements of race management and mark laying. It is strongly recommended that members wanting to do this course hold a first aid certificate. Course details are on the RYA website here.
The course is predominantly practical with lots of focus on dinghy capsize and inversion recovery, towing, man overboard and casualty recovery, lee-shore rescue, windsurfer recovery and more. All of these exercises involve putting the powerboat next to capsized and generally distressed dinghies / windsurfers / people, so students must be comfortable and competent at positioning the powerboat exactly where it needs to be - safely.
In order to sign up for this course members must be aged 16 or over, must hold Powerboat Level 2 and have helming experience. On completion you will be expected to put your safety boat skills to practice supporting club activities.
This course has 6 spaces. Spaces will open for booking once the instructor slots have been filled.
