Powerboat refresher training

7th November 2021, 10:00 - 13:00

This session is for club members who have recently completed the Powerboat Level 2 course but who want some practice to build experience (and confidence) before taking on a club duty.

The intent is to allow club members to remind themselves how to prepare and launch the powerboats, then practice the slow speed boat handling skills they will need when performing club duties. A club powerboat instructor or two will be present to offer coaching advice, help correct any bad habits you may have picked up, answer any questions you may have, and ensure the safe conduct of the session. Participants can practice whatever skills they feel they need in both RIBs and Jaffas. The session is intentionally limited to 6 attendees to ensure you each get plenty of time at the helm.

The session will remain in the vicinity of the clubhouse and it is not an excuse to go and thrash the RIBs!

The plan for the session is:

  • All meet at the clubhouse at 1000.
  • Collectively prepare and launch 2 x RIBs, 1 x Jaffa from the slipway.
  • Split into pairs.
  • Have 3 x 40 minute sessions - 20 minutes helming and 20 minutes crewing in each boat
  • Recover the boats at high water (HW is 12:41)

The powerboat instructors covering this session are Jen Tankard and Nick Jones.

Please note: If you're experienced at helming the club powerboats and have already done club powerboat duties then this session is not for you. Please leave the spaces for those less experienced.
