Dinghy Seamanship Skills

25th - 26 April

This course is intended to improve your boat handling and manouevering ability in a range of different circumstances and develop the seamanship skills needed to solve problems afloat. Details are given on the RYA website here.

The course will cover:

  • Launching and recovering the boat in different circumstances
  • Stopping
  • Reducing sail
  • Recovering a man overboard
  • Picking up a mooring
  • Anchoring

This course is one of the advanced modules for which students are expected to have sailing skills to the standard of the Adult Level 3 Better Sailing or Junior Stage 4 courses. The course will be undertaken using the club double-handed dinghies.

The senior instructor for the course is Bern Whishaw.

The RYA does not specify a minimum age but recommends that students under 16 consider the youth scheme instead. This course is therefore aimed at our TISC adult members.
