Learn to Wingsurf

6th - 7 July

An introductory course, providing a basic introduction to wingsurfing. This course is split into two parts; flying the wing ashore, and getting afloat. Together these sessions provide the fundamentals of wing control, translating its power into forward momentum and steering, whilst reinforcing the core skills of board balance to enable you to travel across the wind a short distance, gybe and return to starting point.

This course is kindly being run for TISC by AISTC.

Feedback on the course:

This weekend was broken into AM land drills and PM water based experience and application of skills. Timing the course started at 0900 day 1 and finished at when most people had had enough circa 1600. Day 2 slightly later start, 1000: land drills until lunch followed by practice. Practical approach was initially, wings on large windsurf boards and then moving to learner foil boards as each individual felt ready. Teaching day one consisted of all the basic parts, how to set it up plus basic variations and considerations plus approach and handling of the wing. Day two added deeper details to the part of the boards and foils, including factors of the kit to consider as your learning skills progressed followed by otw demos and instruction. Most people were standing up and generating momentum with the wings with a significant proportion starting to obtain some first flight experience by the end of the second day which officially finished around 1600, but some die hards were still going right up until we ran low on water.
