Powerboat Level 2 (3rd & 4th May)

3rd - 4 May

The RYA Powerboat Level 2 course is a two-day entry level course which gives an introduction to powerboating. There is no requirement to have done a Level 1 powerboat course beforehand. This course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence (ICC). The majority of the course will be spent driving the club RIBs but on the afternoon of day 2 students will apply their newfound skills to the club Jaffas. This is the minimum course members require to be able to drive the club powerboats in support of club activities.

Syllabus:

The Powerboat Level 2 course syllabus is given in detail on the RYA website and in the powerboat logbook (which all students will receive). It includes:

  • Launching and recovery
  • Boat handling under way (slow speed and high speed manoeuvres)
  • Securing to a buoy
  • Anchoring
  • Leaving and coming alongside
  • Man overboard
  • Leaving and returning to pontoons
  • Towing
  • Basic navigation
  • Collision prevention regulations
  • Plenty of theory!

This course is the pre-cursor to the RYA Safety Boat Operator and Intermediate Powerboat courses.

Instructors:

The instructors for this course are Paul Duignan and Adrian Stace. The ratio of students to instructors is 3 to 1.

Spaces:

This course has 6 places. Booking and payment is through the club website.
