HMS Victory Working Scaffolding Tour 2nd & 16th February
HMS Victory Working Scaffolding Tour
Friday 2nd & 16th February February 2024
Jimmy Green is Lead Shipwright on the HMS Victory conservation Project, and has offered to give fellow TISC members a free, personally guided tour of the working scaffold, not available to the public.
You will be close up to the exposed hull framing where you can see the condition of the existing futtocks and the repair works taking place.
With explanations of original building techniques, previous restorations, causes of deterioration and ambitions of the present project to re plank entirely Victory's topsides.
Participants must be fit enough to walk around on scaffolding and able to climb 5 flights of stairs.
Safety boots, Hard Hats and Hi Vis vests will be provided, but if you have your own toe capped boots it would be helpful to bring them along please.
Meet outside Museum visitor gate by the Hard railway Stn. 15 mins before tour and I will arrange free site access (does not include other exhibits or on board Victory).
There are two time slots allocated 12:00 13:00 & 13:30 -14:30 each taking 15 people. If the event is oversubscribed there is an opportunity to do a second tour on the 9th February at the same times.
