A Talk on 'The Round the World Clipper Race'

9th February 2019, 18:00 - 22:00

There will be a talk on The Round the World Clipper Race by Della Parsons starting at 19:00 and followed by an American supper.

The Clipper Race is one of the biggest challenges of the natural world and an endurance test like no other. With no previous sailing experience necessary, this is a record breaking 40,000 nautical mile race around the world on a 70-foot ocean racing yacht. All that is asked of participants is a good level of fitness, an age over 18 - and a thirst for adventure into the unknown. Come and hear about it from someone who has been there, stared Mother Nature in the eye and taken all she can muster.

Della Parsons, now Crew Recruitment Director for Clipper Ventures, applied to take part in the Clipper Race 10 years ago. Having never sailed before she completed the full circumnavigation and has since clocked up over 80,000 miles at sea. Hear her talk about the history of the race, the challenges of life on-board and just what it takes to become an Ocean Racer.

Bar opens 18:00.

Afterwards there will be an American Supper for those who want to stay. Every person brings a plate of food to share so would those whose surnames begin with the letters between A to K please bring a savory dish and the rest a dessert, then this will, hopefully, balance the menu.
