Details for getting access to Thorney Island Sailing Club

Thorney Island Sailing Club is located on an active Army Base, therefore there are security controls in place for access.

When you arrive at Thorney Island (Google Maps Link) you will first approach the Army security gatehouse.

Entry to the Millennium event will mean you are placed on an access list which will be kept at the gatehouse.

You do no not need to get out of your vehicle but please have your photo ID ready for the guard to check, and state that you are here for the Sailing Club Millennium Event.

They will then issue you with a pass for the weekend which you must display in the front of your vehicle at all times.

Directions once you have passed through the Army security gate

Note: When arriving at the island, it is essential that you come with photo-ID, failure to do so will prevent you gaining access to the base.

Please be advised that there is a 20mph speed limit on the whole of the island as soon as you pass through the barrier.

Once you have passed through the Security gate take the first left, the road will then curve to the right.

When the road straightens pass the left hand turn and keep heading straight on with the large hangers on your right.

You will then come to a crossroad where you should turn left.

This will take you over the old runway.

Now beware of speed humps!!

Stay on this road and you will enter a residential area.

You will pass the large Army Mess building on your left.

Keep straight on, when you come to the end of the trees on the right turn immediately right into the car park.

Accommodation is available at the Army Sailing Association Sailing Centre at £8 per head per night.

The accommodation is a dormitory style with changing room facilities, showers and toilets.

If you wish to book accommodation, please contact Simon Horsfield at simonhorsfield76@gmail.com
