2019 Cruiser Rally Programme
2019 CRUISER RALLY PROGRAMME
I know that many of you, particularly those who attended the AGM in November, will already have the dates of this year's rallies firmly inked into your 2019 diaries. However, for those who did not make it to the AGM and have not heard the results of the survey that we carried out last autumn, here are the dates and a brief description of the events we have planned for this summer. Please get them in your diaries now.
8/9 May 2019 – Bembridge Rally. By popular demand this will be a 2 day event. On 8 May we will sail over to Bembridge in our own time and moor up together at the Duver Marina, where spaces will have been reserved. That evening there will be a DIY BBQ using the Marina's BBQ facilities and their marquee. The following day will be free to explore this attractive part of the IoW and in the evening there will be a choice of dining arrangements at several restaurants, clubs and cafes around the harbour. Details of booking arrangements will be published in the Newsletter in April, so please look out for these.
8 Sep 2019 – Seaview Rally. Our ever popular Sunday lunchtime visit to Seaview Yacht Club will take place on 8 Sep. As usual, the tides will be favourable for sailing over in the morning and back in the afternoon. In recent years we have always been blessed with perfect weather for this rally so, without tempting fate, let's hope for more of the same this year. Details will be announced in an August newsletter.
5 October 2019 – Laying Up Event and American Supper. In a break from tradition, this year we shall be arranging a full day Cruiser event at Thorney Island instead of the usual end of season rally somewhere in the Solent. The intention – weather permitting - is to have a (not too serious) race followed by an early evening American supper in the clubhouse at which all cruising members, present and past, will be welcome. Details to be announced in the September newsletter,
Ad Hoc Events. In addition to the 3 firm events above it is intended to run 2 ad hoc events, subject to their being enough demand. Nigel Melton (firstname.lastname@example.org) has kindly volunteered to organise an informal rally 'somewhere in the Solent' in early June - before the usual mass exodus of yachts to their summer cruising grounds later in the month, And Rob Scovell (email@example.com) would be happy to arrange a get together of the smaller cruisers within the harbour when the weather permits. Both of them will be 'taking soundings' and will be pleased to hear from you if you are interested in taking part.
