Junior Week 2022

25th - 29 July 2022

Are you aged 8-16 years?

Are you interested in learning to sail?

Can you already sail but would like to improve your skills?

If the answer to any of the above questions is 'Yes!' then read on.

When? 25th - 29th July

Timings? 9.30am - 4pm.

What will I learn? Weather permitting and depending on the number of volunteers, you should be able to achieve RYA Stage 1 and/or Stage 2. Those who have achieved Stage 2 or 3 will be able to work towards Stage 3/4.

What will I need? Full wet suit, appropriate buoyancy aid, swimming costume and towel, lace up trainers or sailing bootees, change of clothes, waterproof top and a packed lunch.

Do I need to know how to sail? No! We will teach you even if you have never sailed; but you must be able to swim 50m unaided.

What will it cost? £150 per child for the week. A deposit of £100 will be taken on booking.

Who will instruct? Qualified RYA instructors will teach you and additionally, there will be safety boats and adult helpers to look after you each day.

How do I book a place? Register your interest and book online, once final logistics and planning have taken place and all being well, tickets will be issued during the week of the 16th of May 2022. Once a ticket has been made available to you, you will pay a deposit to reserve your place. When the course is full, you will be able to be added onto the reserve list and if and when further places become available, we will let you know. GoCardless is required to pay for your booking.

Registering is not confirmation of a place, all being well tickets will be issued during the week of the 16th of May 2022 - this will be your confirmation.

Once your details are completed online the deposit will be taken by GoCardless once a place is awarded, you will be notified by email once a place is confirmed and tickets are issued . We will take reserves and increase numbers nearer the time if we can, so even if it is full, please apply if you would like to take part. The Course

The arrangements for the Junior Week are made in good faith but we reserve the right to cancel or make other arrangements if operational or other considerations so dictate. The awarding of RYA Stages will depend on the weather, the availability of instructors and the child's ability and are therefore not guaranteed. The safety and safe conduct of the children is paramount and the Senior Instructor will have the right to cancel the activity if it is not deemed safe. All adult volunteers working alone with the children will be DBS checked.

Images

Photographs may be taken during the week. If you would not want photographs of your child used in promotional or advertising literature or on the club website, please confirm this in writing to the Vice Commodore.

Person making Booking

The individual making the booking is responsible for ensuring that the child is physically fit and able to take part in Junior Week and to notify us in writing of any medical or other conditions that may affect the personal safety of any adult helpers or participants. We reserve the right to terminate Junior Week for any child who refuses to comply with the instructions or orders given by the staff or whose behaviour is deemed to cause danger or upset to other participants or staff.

Facilities

We expect that the changing rooms and showers will be available all week and the children will be able to buy drinks and snacks from the sailing club, if they so wish, although some drinks and biscuits will be provided. They will need a packed lunch each day, wet weather gear including a full wetsuit, trainers and a change of clothes plus a suitable buoyancy aid. Ebay has a good selection of children's sailing clothing wetsuits, sailing tops etc.

Insurance

We strongly recommend that you are insured for Junior Week. It is your responsibility to ensure that your policy includes cover for watersports activities.
