2021 Cruiser Rally Programme

Regulars at cruiser events will remember that our planned rallies in May and September last year had to be cancelled due to Covid restrictions and, although we almost got there in October with the laying up event, we were defeated at the last minute by the weather. So, with continuing uncertainty over the Covid situation, we decided not to plan anything for this spring or early summer but to wait instead until September; by when (hopefully - the Indian variant and other contingencies permitting) things should be reasonably back to normal.

As this will probably be our only rally this year, we have decided to arrange a repeat of the two day visit to Bembridge which proved so popular in 2019. This has been booked for the nights of 21/22 Sep with a DIY BBQ on 21st in one of the marina's marquees. (BYO food and drink - a large gas BBQ will be provided). A small charge will be made for everyone attending, to cover the cost of hiring the marquee and BBQ, which will be collected on the evening. The more that attend the lower the cost! The maximum capacity of the marquee is 40, but this may have to be reduced to 30 if the current Covid limit for outside gatherings has not been removed by Sep. We have set an initial limit of 30 and will see how it goes. The 22nd is programmed as a free day with members making their own choice of restaurant/café or just eating aboard that evening.

NB. The booking procedure is different to previous years as rafting is no longer permitted and the marina now consists mainly of finger berths, which must be booked and paid for individually on line, using the code ( TI 612 ) to obtain your 10% rally discount. Any special assistance requests need to be made at the time of the booking. And, if you want to stay for extra nights, this will require you to make a separate booking on-line in the same booking session. Please carefully note the booking terms & conditions regarding future credits/refunds in the event of cancellation. We have had to set a limit of 15 boats initially but it may be possible to increase this nearer the time if there is greater demand and the capacity is available.

As well as booking with the marina please also e-mail me ( ASAP but by Tue 7 Sep latest with the following details:

  • Yacht's name,
  • LOA (M),
  • Draught (M),
  • Skipper's name and number of additional crew
  • Date of arrival and ETA Bembridge,
  • Any additional information.
  • Booking and payment confirmation

Sorry this is all so complicated, but please don't shoot the messenger! Although I realise that it may too early for you to commit to the rally now, it is never too soon to get the dates pencilled into your diaries. This notice will be repeated in a later newsletter nearer the time and will also be published on the Club website as a reminder. But please do remember that it will be 'first come first served' this year.
